Transformative Painting And Charcoal With Light, Darkness And Colour
Art Therapy
I approach colour therapeutically, offering a space for respite and self-reflection. Painting becomes a tool for inner exploration, providing a sanctuary for the mind and nervous system, working with one’s breath to find balance and flow.
The interconnectedness of spirit, soul, and body, as well as the faculties of thinking, feeling, and will in humans, mirrors the interactions of light, colour, and darkness in the atmosphere and sky. Just as creative processes involving light and darkness occur both within us and in the cosmos, their convergence shapes life and consciousness. When the interplay of these elements is harmonious and creative, it fosters a state of health and well-being. My work is inspired by this interconnectedness, reflecting the natural harmony of light, colour, and darkness found in our surroundings.
This process requires courage, objectivity, and patience. Exercises involving light, darkness, and colour are recognised for their therapeutic benefits and serve as a pathway for self-development.
I primarily work with Willow Charcoal, Chalk Pastel, Watercolours, and Clay. In specific cases, I incorporate Artemis plant colours, which possess both artistic and healing properties. These colours undergo a special production process that anchors the essential light and life forces of each plant, resulting in a transformative experience for the senses. Mixing these plant pigments into water mediums feels like a form of natural medicine, activating restorative and therapeutic processes within.
Plant Colours
Plant colours derive their vibrancy from the living power of sunlight. As the sun's rays interact with plants, they infuse them with a dynamic energy, giving rise to vivid hues. This vitality, known as the etheric aspect, is retained by Artemis plant colours. In contrast, earth, mineral, and synthetic colours lack this life force, as they are stored underground and represent earthly forces. While these colours may possess other qualities, they do not have the vitally active nature of plant colours. Each plant colour has a unique essence, influencing human beings in distinct ways.
Plant colours exhibit a unique dynamic wherein each shade encompasses complementary hues. This interplay of colours within plant shades imbues them with vibrancy and depth. Unlike earth, mineral, or synthetic colours, plant colours possess a sense of vitality that is palpable, even under electric lighting. This lively quality is absent in non-plant colours, making plant colours truly vibrant and alive.
Each plant has its own individual light aura, which the plant colour production process brings out, capturing its essence in a luminous display.
